NEXT STEPS IN MY DEVELOPMENT

Short term -TU/e MSc Industrial Design

The Final Bachelor Project confirmed that my next step as a designer is not broadening my interests, but deepening them. Throughout the bachelor, I discovered a strong interest in research-through-making, textile fabrication, garments and human-centered design. Rather than searching for a new direction, I now want to refine and specialize further within this space. The FBP also uncovered gaps in the Business & Entrepreneurship area that I would like to work on, since this perspective became increasingly important to my vision during the internship semester.

This realization guided my decision to continue with the MSc Industrial Design at TU/e. Before making this choice, I explored alternatives, including Design for the Fashion System at Politecnico di Milano and Strategic Design at TU Delft. Each of these programs would have satisfied only half of my interests. While a fashion-oriented path would strengthen my connection to garments, and a strategy-oriented path would strengthen the Business & Entrepreneurship dimension, neither would maintain the balance between research, making and exploration that has become central to my practice. I also briefly considered entering industry directly after the Bachelor. However, this would leave less room to deepen my research practice. In the end, I realized that my strength lies precisely in the combination of perspectives that Industrial Design allows me to maintain.

To support this direction, the Crafting Wearable Senses squad is my first choice for the upcoming semester, allowing me to deepen my research practice and technical skills in textiles. Additionally, I selected electives such as Design Entrepreneurship and Design for Social Innovation, to further develop the Business & Entrepreneurship area.

Long term BSc Industrial Design

Looking further ahead, I currently envision myself working in research and development contexts related to textiles, wearables or consumer products. Whether within industry opportunities or through entrepreneurship, I hope to contribute to products that emerge from research and ultimately become part of people's everyday lives.
